My car had the sweetest lights in the beginning- but they got super weathered...
They finally got so dull, the other night I kept grabbing the switch because I thought the lights were off....
Did one of those treatments after work last night and HOLY S*%T!! I cannot believe the difference. It’s like night and day........
But, question for the Oppocorps:
I’ve got a spot on my rear bumper cover from when I backed into a post— it’s just a bit of some paint exchange... It’s exactly something for which you’d say “ Oh, that’ll buff right out .”
So in the headlight kit, it’s got the various sandpapers, but also a rubbery foam pad disc that you use with water, and a final foam disc that you use with rubbing compound.
Can I use these to buff out that spot on my bumper??
(obviously not the the sandpapers)
Any beta from the Oppocloud?

I used a microfiber cloth with rubbing compound to do something similar last time.

awesome headlight cleaning. I did the once on the Z4. The plastic coming off the sandpaper into the water was literally yellow. Muuuuch better now like yours

I couldn’t believe the difference when I stepped back. And yeah, the amount of oxidized dried out plastic coming off during the sanding... whew...

nope, paint is different than clear plastic.
What you want is Meguires Scratch-X and a MF towel..

I really like using toothpaste to polish headlights just because it is so absurd that you would doubt it to work. But it really does do the trick. Plastx from Meguiars and kits like the one you got definitely work better though. I just have to figure out how to get the water off the inside of mine. Seals are going so they fog up real quick.

Bodyshop guy here, can confirm that’ll come out with rubbing compound (fine, not coarse) and a microfiber. You’ll still have the little paint gouge at about 11 o’clock, but the yellow and black scuffs should disappear completely.

Nice job on the headlights. To get rid of that spot, you could likely use some of those sandpapers (i suspect the finer ones on the range of 1200 grit and up). But honestly, i’d go pick up some scratch remover compound and a buffing pad and start there. Alternatively, if you know someone with a rotary detailer you’ll be even better off as it’ll remove less material than the sanding methods would.

Which kit did you use? I just ordered the 3M one.

Yup- I used the 3M one that uses a drill-- big thumbs up. I seem to recall it was pretty cheap too.. ( I bought if few months ago and just now doing it)

Yeah- you’ll be stoked when you do it. It’s always fun to do something where you can really see a difference afterwards.. and this was shocking the difference between before and after...

Holy shit it was really that effective? I need to do it on the Milan and I was about to start asking people what kit to get.

Honestly, the pics don’t even do it justice.. they are so clear now.... But as mentioned above, I used a 3M kit that uses the drill disc and pads...

I bought it for my M3, but I really need to do it for my old Pathfinder, too. Might just do them at the same time with the same kit (car first, of course) and see if it I can stretch it to do all four headlights.

A clay bar will remove 99% of that, I would start there.

Hit that spot with polish and a damp cloth. Might take some scrubbin’, but if that yellow stuff is just paint transfer from something else, it should come out.
Personally I’d do this before I started applying unknown substances to it. It might
just work!

For the bumper I would start with a cleaner wax or clay bar and slowly move up the abrasiveness. its better to remove little or nothing than too much.

Exactly! Idk why people are recommending sand paper for paint transfer.
